Be Antibiotics Aware Educational Materials

Yesterday kicked off U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week (USAAW), November 18-24. CDC’s national Be Antibiotics Aware educational effort released new resources for healthcare professionals and patients. These materials are available to download or order via CDC-INFO On Demand.

In observance of USAAW, CDC encourages healthcare professionals to continue improving antibiotic prescribing and use by using CDC’s Be Antibiotics Aware educational materials and sharing them with your colleagues and patients.

These free resources include:
  • Consultant Pharmacy Posters that highlight scenarios where nursing home pharmacists can optimize antibiotic prescribing practices and resident safety.

  • Hospital Discharge Flowchart to inform hospitalists of the four steps that should be taken to ensure appropriate antibiotic prescribing at hospital discharge.

  • Handouts to educate patients and families about when antibiotics are and are not needed:
                   - Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
                   - Common Cold
                   - Chest Cold
                   - Flu

To order printed materials:
  • Visit CDC-INFO On Demand
  • In the Programs drop-down menu, select “Antibiotic Use”
  • Click the Search button
To learn more about appropriate antibiotic prescribing and use, visit CDC’s antibiotic use website.
