New CDC Study Finds Arthritis and Severe Joint Pain is Highest Among American Indians/Alaska Natives
May is Arthritis Awareness Month! Check out a recently published article from CDC’s Arthritis Management and Well-Being Program which found that American Indian/Alaska Native adults had the highest age-adjusted prevalence of arthritis and severe joint pain. Read more to learn other racial/ethnic differences discussed in the article published in Arthritis Care & Research. Osteoarthritis Action Alliance (OAAA) Healthy Diet Handout Managing weight with a healthy diet and physical activity can help improve joint pain and other osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms. For every 1 pound of weight loss, there is 4 pounds of relief on the knees. Wondering where to get started? The OA Action Alliance has compiled a variety of resources on OA, weight management, and nutrition, including a NEW printable handout on Reducing Joint Pain Through a Healthy Diet. Strategies to Increase Physical Activity Physical activity is a recommended strategy for managing several chronic health conditions like arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and many more. Watch Chronic Disease Self-Management Education for Arthritis Video Check out a video on Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) from CDC’s Arthritis Management and Well-Being Program. This video discusses Chronic Disease Self-Management Education Programs, and their ability to aid in the management of arthritis, as well as other chronic health conditions. Listen to Healthy Living with Arthritis: Tai Chi for Arthritis Episode Listen to a recent episode of Healthy Living with Arthritis! This episode “Tai Chi for Arthritis” focuses on the CDC-recognized arthritis-appropriate, evidence-based intervention by the same name. CDC subject matter expert Audrey Williams discusses the program and offers resources for finding remote and in-person courses near you! Healthy Living with Arthritis is available in CDC’s Public Health Media Library. The podcast series can be found outside of CDC on streaming platforms including Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, and Podchaser. Chronic Disease Indicators Web Tool Refresh and New Dataset Released The Chronic Disease Indicators (CDI) tool provides national and state estimates for a set of key surveillance indicators of chronic diseases, including arthritis, and their risk factors. Data are available in the form of maps, bar graphs, line graphs, and tables, through the CDI Data Portal. CDC Clean Slate Webinar CDC’s Office of Communications is hosting a live webinar for partners on May 17th at 1pm ET about the new CDC website and covering topics that may impact partners like URL changes, syndication, archives, and more. |
