#OneHealthDay: Working Together to Combat Antibiotic Resistance

Latest from CDC on Antibiotic Resistance (AR)

A One Health Approach Helps Fight Threats
Like Antibiotic Resistance

Resistant germs can spread between people,
animals, and the environment

Join CDC for One Health Day this Wednesday, Nov. 3, to celebrate and bring attention to the need for a One Health approach. A One Health approach addresses shared health threats at the human-animal-environment intersection, including antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance can affect our progress in health care, food production, and life expectancy, and it’s not only a U.S. problem—it is a global crisis. New forms of resistance emerge and can spread with remarkable speed between continents through people, goods, and animals.

More than half of antibiotic prescribing for selected events in hospitals was not consistent with recommended prescribing practices

A collaborative One Health approach works because it addresses animal, human, and environmental health. When we protect one, we help protect all.

Celebrate #OneHealthDay this week and help fight antibiotic resistance:

  • Join CDC’s One Health office for the next Zoonoses & One Health Updates (ZOHU) webinar this Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2-3 p.m. ET. CDC’s Cary Krug, MPH, will present lessons learned on communicating about antibiotic resistance with companion animal owners and breeders.
  • Watch and share a new video highlighting antibiotic stewardship education for dairy calf owners, a CDC project developed in collaboration with The Ohio State University.
  • Get ready for U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week, Nov. 18-24, which aims to improve antibiotic use across the One Health spectrum. See how to participate (including Twitter Storm details and free patient education materials).
  • Follow @CDC_AR on Twitter for the latest news, updates, and information on antibiotic resistance.

A #OneHealth approach can help fight #AntibioticResistance. The health of people is connected to the health of animals & the environment (soil, water). See how CDC is combating AR: https://www.cdc.gov/drugresistance/solutions-initiative/index.html
