Latest from CDC on Antibiotic Resistance (AR)

Multistate Outbreak
Extensively Drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Associated with Artificial Tears

CDC is investigating a multistate outbreak of extensively drug-resistant, carbapenemase-producing P. aeruginosa infections associated with multiple and different infection types, including eye infections. The investigation currently suggests artificial tears may be a common source of infection for many patients. The brand of artificial tears most commonly reported was EzriCare Artificial Tears. The manufacturer, Global Pharma, has initiated a voluntary recall to the consumer level of all unexpired lots of EzriCare Artificial Tears and Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears.

Eye Drops being administered.

CDC recommends that clinicians and patients stop using EzriCare and Delsam Pharma’s Artificial Tears products pending additional guidance from CDC and FDA.
