CDC has launched a new tool for adults to anonymously check their drinking, identify barriers and motivators for drinking less, and print or save a personalized change plan. This evidence-based tool is a free resource that can be used by adults or institutions. It was developed as part of the launch of the new Drink Less, Be Your Best campaign, which provides resources and support to help adults drink less.

A new study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine examines the proportion of non-traffic-related injury deaths that involve high levels of alcohol for 15 causes of injury. This systematic review and meta-analysis finds that excessive alcohol use is associated with a median of 27% of injury deaths. The findings underscore the importance of implementing and enforcing evidence-based strategies for preventing excessive drinking to reduce injuries and promoting safer community environments.


 

The Community Guide has updated and streamlined the What Works Fact Sheet for excessive alcohol consumption. This two-page summary features an easy-to-read table that shows Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommendations and findings for evaluated intervention approaches. It may be viewed online or printed as a handout, making it useful for communications with decision makers and partners.
